The Singing Laboratory CD Kit

Kit of CD and student information sheets for teachers, parents and classroom extension activities. For upper primary Years 5-7.

Researched, written, composed and recorded by us, the kit has been distributed to approximately 400 primary schools.

Covers 15 contemporary Australian science topics. For each topic we recorded an original song and prepared a student information sheet with lively cartoon-style illustrations.

Each kit contains

• a CD of 16 songs about science
  (Music Ian Lehmann. Words John Legg & Cathy Cox)
• 15 classroom student information sheets.

For teachers

Sheets can be used for

• guided reading
• brainstorming concepts
• answering questions.

Students can

• present information action strategies
• draw diagrams
• make models
• sing along with CD
• learn about music styles
• write lyrics
• access web sites.

As part of the project we conducted a 10 day school tour of regional South Australian primary schools on the remote Eyre Peninsula. Children and teachers contributed to the project and learned about science in a fun and vibrant way.

The Commonwealth Science and Technology Awareness Program funded the project.
